WOODEN TABLE/SCULPTURE
This project explores my own creative design research in the encompassing discipline of sculpture while studying a contemporary visual artist who focuses on traditional and non-traditional materials. Hence, this sculptural table was inspired by Wendell Castle whose innovative creations have blurred the boundaries between art and craft, and form and function. He challenges traditional notions of what furniture should look like and how it should be used. Not only does he enjoy playing with taking the furniture out of the furniture, but most of his works are functional objects breaking into sculptures.

Hence, I decided to design a table that can be interpreted as a piece of furniture and a sculpture. It is a non-functional table that illustrates the connection between nature, design and art, which are all part of my design discipline. It embodies a time line showing the transition and evolution of wood from its natural state to man-made objects. It was fabricated using birch wood and natural tree trunks found in the forest and assembled using traditional carpentry tools and accessories.
